Liver and Gallbladder Cleanse: A Step-by-Step Guide

Many of our patients are concerned about their liver function and health while doing a comprehensive parasite cleanse. While it is not a necessity to do a liver cleanse before starting a parasite cleansing protocol, it can be a good idea, especially for those who are concerned about their liver health.

Ingredients:

  • Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulfate): 4 tablespoons (available at most pharmacies)
  • Good Quality Olive Oil: 1/2 cup (125 mL)
  • Fresh Pink Grapefruit: 1 large or 2 small (enough to yield 1/2 cup or 125 mL juice) OR
  • Lemons/Limes: 7-8, squeezed into 1/2 cup (125 mL) juice as an alternative to grapefruit
  • 1-liter jar for mixing

Preparation Tips:

  • Choose a weekend (Friday or Saturday) to begin the cleanse, allowing rest the following day as you may need to use the bathroom often.
  • Avoid medications, vitamins, or supplements that are not essential, as they could interfere with the cleanse.
  • Consume a no-fat breakfast and lunch on the day of the cleanse to allow bile to accumulate and create pressure in the liver. If you can fast for the entire day or only eat a no-fat breakfast – with no lunch – it is even better.

Timeline for the Cleanse

Day 1

  • 2:00 PM
Do not eat or drink anything after 2:00 PM. Violating this rule may cause nausea or other discomforts later. Ensure that the Epsom salt solution is prepared and ready.
  • 6:00 PM
Drink the first serving (3/4 cup or 185 mL) of the Epsom salt solution. You may add some vitamin C powder or a squeeze of fresh lemon to improve the taste. Rinsing your mouth with water afterward is allowed.
  • 8:00 PM
Repeat by drinking another 3/4 cup (185 mL) of the Epsom salt solution. Then complete your bedtime routine before the next step, as the timing is crucial for the success of this protocol.
  • 9:45 PM
Prepare the olive oil mixture. Pour 1/2 cup (125 mL) of olive oil into a jar. Squeeze the juice from your chosen citrus (grapefruit, lime, or lemon) to yield at least 1/2 cup (125 mL). Combine the juice with the olive oil, close the lid, and shake vigorously until the mixture is well-blended and appears watery.
Before proceeding, ensure you use the bathroom as needed. Try not to be too late for the next step.
  • 10:00 PM
Drink the olive oil and citrus mixture. Do this while standing, and try to finish it in less than 5 minutes.
Immediately after drinking, lie down on your bed. Position yourself on your right side with your knees drawn up close to your chest. This is essential to facilitate the expulsion of stones. Remain still for at least 20 minutes, focusing on relaxation. Ideally if you can, go to sleep in this position.

Day 2

  • 6:00 AM
Set an alarm for 6:00 AM. Upon waking, take your third dose of the Epsom salt solution. If experiencing nausea, wait until it subsides before drinking. Return to bed and sleep for a bit longer if necessary.
  • 8:00 AM
Two hours later, take the fourth and final dose of the Epsom salt solution. Take a rest afterwards.
  • 10:00 AM
From 10 o’clock onwards, you can eat again. Start with a glass of fresh apple juice, which helps dissolve gallstones and provides a gentle transition for your liver back to normal function. After half an hour, you can consume fruit, a salad, or a smoothie. Continue with light meals for the rest of the day, slowly transitioning back to your regular diet as you feel more comfortable. If you feel unwell, stick to apples and apple juice throughout the day.

Note: Freshly pressed apple juice is the best choice for breaking the fast. At 10:00 AM, prepare 5-6 large apples in a juicer to make fresh juice. Follow this with a light plant-based meal to ease your system back into digestion.

Completing a liver and gallbladder cleanse requires careful preparation and adherence to timing for the best results. Be sure to plan ahead, set aside enough time for rest, and follow each step closely for optimal benefits.

Signs of Effective Liver Detoxification

When the liver is functioning optimally and effectively detoxifying the body, a range of positive health changes may become noticeable. Here are some typical signs of successful liver detoxification:

Signs of effective liver detoxification

Increased Energy Levels:

A well-functioning liver efficiently removes toxins from the bloodstream, which can result in a boost in overall energy. Without the burden of processing and storing excess toxins, the body can channel more energy into everyday activities, leading to reduced fatigue and enhanced vitality throughout the day.

Improved Digestion:

The liver plays a key role in producing bile, which is essential for digesting fats. Effective liver detoxification can lead to better bile production and secretion, improving digestion and reducing issues like bloating, gas, constipation, or indigestion. This also supports nutrient absorption, ensuring your body gets the essential vitamins and minerals it needs.

Clearer, Healthier Complexion:

The skin is one of the body’s main detoxification organs, and when the liver is overloaded, toxins may escape through the skin, leading to conditions like acne, rashes, and dullness. An effective liver detox can result in clearer, brighter skin by reducing these toxin-related skin issues.

Enhanced Mental Clarity and Focus:

A build-up of toxins in the body can lead to brain fog, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating. By improving liver function and reducing the toxic load, many people experience sharper mental clarity, better focus, and an improved mood.

Reduced Inflammation:

Chronic inflammation is often linked to toxin accumulation in the body. A functioning liver detoxifies harmful substances, leading to lower levels of inflammation. This can manifest as reduced joint pain, fewer headaches, and relief from chronic conditions aggravated by inflammation.

Hormonal Balance:

The liver helps regulate and break down excess hormones, ensuring hormonal balance in the body. Effective liver detoxification can aid in managing symptoms associated with hormone imbalances, such as irregular menstrual cycles, mood swings, or issues with thyroid function.

Successful Weight Management:

The liver is central to metabolizing fats and sugars. When the liver is not functioning properly, it can be harder to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Detoxing the liver can improve metabolism, aiding in more efficient fat processing and energy production, which may support weight loss and overall weight management.

Strengthened Immune System:

A healthy liver contributes to a strong immune system by filtering out harmful bacteria, viruses, and toxins. Effective liver detoxification can support the immune system, making the body more resilient against infections and illnesses. Additionally, improved digestion and nutrient absorption can further enhance immune function.

Additional Benefits of Liver Detoxification

Balanced Blood Sugar Levels:

The liver helps regulate blood sugar by storing and releasing glucose as needed. Improved liver function can lead to more stable blood sugar levels, reducing the likelihood of insulin resistance, sugar cravings, and energy crashes throughout the day.

Better Sleep Patterns:

Poor liver function can lead to imbalances that disrupt sleep, particularly if the liver is overloaded and working overtime to process toxins. After a detox, people often report improved sleep quality, falling asleep more easily, and waking up feeling more rested.

Enhanced Detoxification Pathways:

Effective liver detoxification means that the body’s primary detox pathways—like urine, sweat, and feces—work efficiently. This can lead to more regular bowel movements, reduced bloating, and improved overall digestion. By optimizing these pathways, the liver ensures that waste and toxins are expelled effectively.
